One of ten day masters
Yang Fire丙
Yang Fire is the bonfire: light that was never meant to be private. A 丙 day master warms the whole room without being asked and without keeping score, and people find their way toward it before they can say why.
A bonfire cannot be turned down. With nothing else to burn you burn yourself, and the people who gathered for the warmth are the first to step back from the heat.
What a day master is
A BaZi chart is four pillars, and each pillar is two characters — eight in all. One of those eight is the subject of the reading and the other seven are what it has to deal with. That one is the heavenly stem over your birth day, and it is called the day master. Yours is 丙: fire in its yang form, which the old texts picture as a bonfire.
It is decided by the calendar day you were born, not the year — so it has nothing to do with your zodiac animal, and two people born the same year usually have different day masters. The hour matters too, but for something else: the hour sets your Purple Star life palace, which is a different sky arguing with this one.
The rest of the vocabularyThe four crossings a 丙 lands in
Your day master is half of a crossing. The other half is your Western Sun, once its element crosses the bridge into this system — and there are only four places it can land. Same fire, four different rooms to stand in.
Sun in Aries, Leo or Sagittarius
The Two-Ended WickYang Fire (丙) is daylight burning at both ends. Everyone can see it and nobody can miss the cost — you do not get to be quietly depleted.
fire meets fire
Sun in Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn
The KilnYang Fire (丙) fires the kiln in one long blaze. You commit heat in bulk, and the thing either comes out hard or comes out cracked.
fire builds earth
Sun in Gemini, Libra or Aquarius
The BellowsYang Fire (丙) with the bellows behind it is a forge fire in open air. Encouragement makes you bigger, and bigger is not always what the work needed.
wood feeds fire
Sun in Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces
The Storm LanternYang Fire (丙) in the storm lantern is a sun behind glass. The hood costs you reach, and you notice the loss every night you are grateful for it.
water quenches fire
The other fire day master
Fire arrives as two stems, and they are not the same person. Where 丙 is a bonfire, 丁 is a candle flame — the same element solving a different problem.
Yin Fire (丁) →Where fire sits in the cycle
The five elements are not five categories. They are a loop with two directions — one that feeds and one that breaks — and everything a reading says about strength, luck and conflict is read off this loop.
- Fed by
- wood · wood feeds fire
- Feeds
- earth · fire builds earth
- Breaks
- metal · fire melts metal
- Broken by
- water · water quenches fire
This is one character out of eight. You have four skies.
The day master is where a BaZi reading starts, not where it ends. What the other seven characters do to it, what your Purple Star chart says about the same life, and what the Western sky and the day you were born into add — that is the reading.
