One of ten day masters
Yang Earth戊
Yang Earth is the mountain — the thing other people take their bearings from. A 戊 day master does not move for weather, and that is precisely the value: everyone around you gets to make plans, because you will still be there.
Mountains do not step aside. What reads as steadiness from outside is sometimes only weight, and the cost of it is paid by whoever needed you to move.
What a day master is
A BaZi chart is four pillars, and each pillar is two characters — eight in all. One of those eight is the subject of the reading and the other seven are what it has to deal with. That one is the heavenly stem over your birth day, and it is called the day master. Yours is 戊: earth in its yang form, which the old texts picture as a mountain.
It is decided by the calendar day you were born, not the year — so it has nothing to do with your zodiac animal, and two people born the same year usually have different day masters. The hour matters too, but for something else: the hour sets your Purple Star life palace, which is a different sky arguing with this one.
The rest of the vocabularyThe four crossings a 戊 lands in
Your day master is half of a crossing. The other half is your Western Sun, once its element crosses the bridge into this system — and there are only four places it can land. Same earth, four different rooms to stand in.
Sun in Aries, Leo or Sagittarius
The Fired ClayYang Earth (戊) is the mountain that went through the fire — a whole slope turned to brick. What changed you was large, and so is the shape it left.
fire builds earth
Sun in Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn
The Long TerraceYang Earth (戊) is the retaining wall of the terrace, the part nobody eats from. You are the reason the courses above you are still level.
earth meets earth
Sun in Gemini, Libra or Aquarius
The Windcut StoneYang Earth (戊) is the cliff face taking the wind. You lose a great deal, it takes centuries, and the shape people photograph is the shape of the loss.
wood breaks earth
Sun in Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces
The LeveeYang Earth (戊) is the levee built high: a decision made once and defended afterwards. You do not renegotiate the course with the river every spring.
earth banks water
The other earth day master
Earth arrives as two stems, and they are not the same person. Where 戊 is a mountain, 己 is garden soil — the same element solving a different problem.
Yin Earth (己) →Where earth sits in the cycle
The five elements are not five categories. They are a loop with two directions — one that feeds and one that breaks — and everything a reading says about strength, luck and conflict is read off this loop.

This is one character out of eight. You have four skies.
The day master is where a BaZi reading starts, not where it ends. What the other seven characters do to it, what your Purple Star chart says about the same life, and what the Western sky and the day you were born into add — that is the reading.
