One of ten day masters
Yang Wood甲
Yang Wood is the trunk that picked its direction early and has been committing to it ever since. It grows by adding rings rather than by changing shape, which is why a 甲 day master is hard to redirect and easy to rely on.
The trunk cannot bend. When the thing you committed to stops being worth it, you are the last to notice — noticing would mean the rings were spent on nothing.
What a day master is
A BaZi chart is four pillars, and each pillar is two characters — eight in all. One of those eight is the subject of the reading and the other seven are what it has to deal with. That one is the heavenly stem over your birth day, and it is called the day master. Yours is 甲: wood in its yang form, which the old texts picture as tall timber.
It is decided by the calendar day you were born, not the year — so it has nothing to do with your zodiac animal, and two people born the same year usually have different day masters. The hour matters too, but for something else: the hour sets your Purple Star life palace, which is a different sky arguing with this one.
The rest of the vocabularyThe four crossings a 甲 lands in
Your day master is half of a crossing. The other half is your Western Sun, once its element crosses the bridge into this system — and there are only four places it can land. Same wood, four different rooms to stand in.
Sun in Aries, Leo or Sagittarius
The Green FuseYang Wood (甲) is the trunk on the fire — a fuse measured in years, not evenings. You give up something large slowly, and people mistake the slowness for having plenty left.
wood feeds fire
Sun in Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn
The Root WedgeYang Wood (甲) drives the wedge with its whole weight. You split what is in front of you, and the ground you open is usually the ground you were standing on.
wood breaks earth
Sun in Gemini, Libra or Aquarius
The Open CanopyYang Wood (甲) puts the canopy up high. Your reach is structural — it holds because there is a trunk under it, and it costs you every winter to keep.
wood meets wood
Sun in Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces
The River WillowYang Wood (甲) in the current is a tree on the bank: roots in the water, crown in the wind. You take the river without moving for it.
water raises wood
The other wood day master
Wood arrives as two stems, and they are not the same person. Where 甲 is tall timber, 乙 is a climbing vine — the same element solving a different problem.
Yin Wood (乙) →Where wood sits in the cycle
The five elements are not five categories. They are a loop with two directions — one that feeds and one that breaks — and everything a reading says about strength, luck and conflict is read off this loop.

This is one character out of eight. You have four skies.
The day master is where a BaZi reading starts, not where it ends. What the other seven characters do to it, what your Purple Star chart says about the same life, and what the Western sky and the day you were born into add — that is the reading.
