One of ten day masters
Yin Wood乙
Yin Wood is the vine, and a vine is not a weaker trunk. It is solving a different problem: it finds what is already standing and uses it, which is how it reaches heights its own thickness could never hold.
You need something to climb. Put a 乙 day master in an empty room and the strength has nowhere to go — it reads as indecision when it is really a wall that has not arrived yet.
What a day master is
A BaZi chart is four pillars, and each pillar is two characters — eight in all. One of those eight is the subject of the reading and the other seven are what it has to deal with. That one is the heavenly stem over your birth day, and it is called the day master. Yours is 乙: wood in its yin form, which the old texts picture as a climbing vine.
It is decided by the calendar day you were born, not the year — so it has nothing to do with your zodiac animal, and two people born the same year usually have different day masters. The hour matters too, but for something else: the hour sets your Purple Star life palace, which is a different sky arguing with this one.
The rest of the vocabularyThe four crossings a 乙 lands in
Your day master is half of a crossing. The other half is your Western Sun, once its element crosses the bridge into this system — and there are only four places it can land. Same wood, four different rooms to stand in.
Sun in Aries, Leo or Sagittarius
The Green FuseYin Wood (乙) is the vine that catches. You light quicker and hotter than the trunk does, and you know it, which is why you are careful about what you lean on.
wood feeds fire
Sun in Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn
The Root WedgeYin Wood (乙) is the root hair in the hairline crack. Nobody sees the work. They see the wall come down two years later and call it weather.
wood breaks earth
Sun in Gemini, Libra or Aquarius
The Open CanopyYin Wood (乙) spreads sideways instead of up. You cover more ground than the timber does, and you need something else's shape to do it.
wood meets wood
Sun in Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces
The River WillowYin Wood (乙) is the willow itself. Bending is not a concession you make, it is the whole method, and it is why you outlast the bank.
water raises wood
The other wood day master
Wood arrives as two stems, and they are not the same person. Where 乙 is a climbing vine, 甲 is tall timber — the same element solving a different problem.
Yang Wood (甲) →Where wood sits in the cycle
The five elements are not five categories. They are a loop with two directions — one that feeds and one that breaks — and everything a reading says about strength, luck and conflict is read off this loop.

This is one character out of eight. You have four skies.
The day master is where a BaZi reading starts, not where it ends. What the other seven characters do to it, what your Purple Star chart says about the same life, and what the Western sky and the day you were born into add — that is the reading.
